Hand Picked: Forget Me Not Free Quilt Pattern
Designer and photographer Nicholas Lapp is known for his beautiful floral collages that he creates using real blooms that he has grown or foraged in his yard and local nurseries. His approach to quilting is quite similar! When he began to explore piecing he gravitated toward exploring improv-pieced quilts, which he found was another way to express his love of collage and color. Nicholas's latest collection with Maywood Studio is Hand Picked: Forget Me Not. We partnered with Nicholas to create this fun quilt that is true to his style.
Nicholas was game to explore ways to create the look of improvisational piecing with blocks. Through a process of sketching and sewing, we came up with the idea of a Block Mixer pattern! This technique uses use different combinations of fabric that are pieced into sections and then re-arranged in two different blocks. It is beginner-friendly and much less complicated than it sounds. He sewed one up in a weekend!
Block Mixer quilts might just be our new favorite way to create the look of improv piecing with strip rolls.
